Diddy Kong is a young Kong who serves as both the sidekick and best friend of Donkey Kong. Diddy was created by Rare, and first appears in the Donkey Kong title Donkey Kong Country. Since his debut, Diddy has become one of the main characters within the Donkey Kong franchise, and even received his own spinoff title, Diddy Kong Racing, later remade for the Nintendo DS as Diddy Kong Racing DS. Like Donkey Kong, Diddy has also appeared in several Mario spinoff titles, usually as a playable character.
The first Nintendo DS game that Diddy appears in is Yakuman DS. Diddy's next appearance for the Nintendo DS, as well as his first appearance on the system outside of Japan, is in Mario Hoops 3-on-3, which features Diddy as a playable character. Mario Party DS is the last Nintendo DS game in which Diddy appears.
For the backward-compatible Game Boy Advance software, Diddy appears in a few Donkey Kong titles, and his first appearance on the system is in a remake of his overall debut title, Donkey Kong Country. Unlike the Nintendo DS, Diddy does not appear in any Mario titles for the Game Boy Advance.
Diddy Kong appears in the Japan-only mahjong game Yakuman DS as one of the 21 opponents.
Mario Hoops 3-on-3
Diddy Kong is playable in Mario Hoops 3-on-3. Diddy Kong is a default player, and is a part of the speedy class. Diddy's Special Shot is the Jet Shot, which summons Diddy's Barrel Jet that attaches to his back. Diddy then flies toward the basket.
Diddy Kong Racing DS
In the introduction, Diddy gets a letter from Timber, who asks for Diddy's help with saving Timber's Island from Wizpig. By the game's conclusion, Diddy, Timber, and their friends manage to expel Wizpig and free the Timber's Island guardians from his mind control.
DK: Jungle Climber
Diddy Kong appears in DK: Jungle Climber, mainly as Donkey Kong's sidekick. DK can use Diddy as a launch to hit objects and access otherwise unreachable areas. Diddy is also required to use three power-ups: Hammer, Wings, and Torch. Diddy has to be raced at the start of the game and in one of the minigames.
Mario Party DS
In Mario Party DS, Diddy makes his debut in the Mario Party series as a non-playable character. In the third stage of Story Mode, Donkey Kong is transformed into a statue by a Dry Bones. Mario and friends help him recover Donkey Kong, and soon defeat the Dry Bones. After its defeat, Diddy hands Mario and friends the third Sky Crystal, while Donkey Kong heads off to Bowser's Castle. Diddy is also featured as both an unlockable figure and an unlockable badge.
