A variety of Wii Channels, shown from the Wii Menu

Wii Channels are digital software for the Wii accessible from the Wii Menu. They are either preincluded with the Wii or can be downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel. Some Wii Channels are essential for the console to function properly (mainly the Disc Channel). Wii Channels often refer to the regular software instead of the downloadable WiiWare and Virtual Console games.

The Wii Menu has four pages, each capable of holding up to twelve Wii Channels, and allowing for up to 48 Wii Channels. Using an SD card in later Wii versions allows for a total of 20 pages, meaning up to 240 Wii Channels can be stored on an SD card. A Wii Channel can be moved around on the Wii Menu by holding A Button + B Button and dragging it.

On June 27, 2013, certain Wii Channels were discontinued alongside WiiConnect24, including the Forecast Channel, News Channel, Everybody Votes Channel, Nintendo Channel, and Check Mii Out Channel, all of which relied on WiiConnect24 to function.[1]

On January 30, 2019, streaming services such as Netflix were discontinued for the Wii, alongside the Wii Shop Channel.
